This section brings together practical work from my career in Indian health, including management experience and grant development, with an emphasis on the circumstances and challenges faced by Tribal health programs.
Managing a Tribal Health Program
Managing a Tribal Health Program presents practical guidance on the organization, financing, services, information systems, and management of a Tribal health program. It draws on experience working with Tribal health programs and on the policy and financing issues that shape them.
Scope of experience. My direct management experience has primarily been with smaller Tribal health programs serving populations of fewer than 10,000 patients. I have also consulted on management issues for larger Tribes with IHS-operated programs, including the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation in Washington. The material in this section should therefore be understood primarily as practical experience with smaller Tribal health programs, rather than as a comprehensive account of managing large IHS-operated systems.
Grant Proposals
Grant Proposals shows how the research and data on this site can be used in developing proposals for Tribal health programs, Tribal organizations, Urban Indian Organizations, and firms working with Tribal clients.
